Guemes Island Fire Department

Fire Prevention

The Guemes Island Fire Department adheres to the provisions of the new International Fire code as adopted by the State of Washington on July 1, 2004. We often work in cooperation with the Skagit County Fire Marshall and various insurance companies to minimize the risks posed by fire on the island.  We are the lead agency in ensuring that burn bans are observed during periods of high fire danger.  As a department, we are committed to providing education and encouragement to island residents to help them observe best practices in fire prevention - including the use of smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, and best practices when operating wood burning stoves.
If you have any questions regarding fire prevention, please call or stop by during our office hours between 9:00 am and 11:00 am on Wednesdays and Fridays.
